Brody and Riley make their home in Pennsylvania with Lori and Paul Elias.  Brody, the sable/white male, was born July 6, 2000 and is shown here at 8 months and about 6 pounds.  Riley, the black/white male, was born January 10, 2001 and is pictured here soon after coming to join the family in March and is about 3 pounds.  They both came from Seraphim Papillons.

They are not show dogs but that doesn't mean they don't like to show off!  Brody spends a lot of his time dancing up on his hind legs, and Riley is trying to imitate his big brother.  Brody is an excellent older brother and they have been best friends since the day Riley arrived.  They often give each other "kisses", and Brody will wash Riley's face like a mother dog would one of her pups...even cleans inside Riley's ears!  If Riley whimpers in his sleep, Brody will come dashing in from wherever he is to sniff around Riley and make sure he's all right.  They even share the same hobby...EATING!

These little boys came to live with their family after their Chocolate Lab, Whitney, passed away last spring.  Though a family pet can never be replaced, Brody and Riley have done an excellent job of filling the void and making the house a home once more. Their mom, Lori, finds them to be a great inspiration and shared the wonderful poem below with all of her Papfriends:

ODE TO THE PAPILLON
© 2001 Lori Elias

Me thinks that I shall never see
A dog more lovable than thee.
Long, silky fringe on pricked up ears,
Fancy "trousers" on all your rears!

A tail that's carried like a plume
Flies like a banner when you "zoom";
Moving with such grace and style
While on your face that Pappy smile.

Dainty feet that go pitter-pat,
Sometimes I can't tell where you're at;
But usually you're not too far,
A "Velcro dog" is what you are!

Regal yes, but playful too;
You put your all in all you do.
Sometimes you're saucy, sometimes sweet,
But you always, ALWAYS love to eat!

You do that little Pappy dance,
You spin in circles and you prance.
Jumping like your legs have springs,
Soaring up and over things.

You win the smiles of those you meet
Just by strutting down the street.
For those who know you in their heart,
You're not just beautiful, but smart.

One look and it's apparent why
You're named after the butterfly.
And when they flit in graceful rings,
You know a puppy just got it's "wings".
